In July 2009, Jenna Rivers opened Fringe Movement a 4,400 sq ft wood shop turned design studio in the heart of Union Square Somerville that she rents out to designers and artists of various mediums from fashion, photography, videography, letterpress printing, graphic design, industrial design, architecture, custom bike framing and more.
Jenna is a fashion designer who designs a wide range of product for the fashion industry from accessories, womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, and athleticwear in the ready to wear market.
Inspired by traditional craft techniques, Jenna develops her own patterns and textiles designed and made by hand in studio. The handcraft appeal is not only unique, but the design is luxurious and exclusive for her clients. Her work is focused around the relationships between traditional crafts and new technologies. Jenna comes from a family of fashion designers and craftspeople. Jenna works with her mother and grandmother to develop traditional hand loomed textiles made into apparel and accessories under their label FutureCraft.
Jenna was raised in a small town west of Boston called Fitchburg MA where she grew up drawing, painting, crafting and sewing with her mother (Josephine) and grandmother (Maria). Being the local town's art teacher who always pushed the students to explore their artistic abilities, Josephine would always give her art & craft projects to create with her friends. This became Jenna's obsession. Maria created the most amazing couture quality dresses and could knit with her eyes closed. Jenna was determined to learn how to do the same so she wanted to be well prepared when she started her career. Throughout junior high & high school, she studied the craft of sewing, went to college prep courses every summer, took college courses during the year, and studed everything fashion & design related so she could move to New York to persue her goal to become a fashion designer.
Jenna studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She dropped out of her major her 2nd year and continued to take courses while finishing up her debut collection for her first clothing line Serum vs Venom, SVSV and then Savant. She then renovated a design studio in the heart of Williamsburg Brooklyn in partnership with The Keystone Design Union and Royal Magazine where Jenna consulted for various fashion and design companies designing apparel and accessories in the menswear and womenswear market.
